The Lewisville Historical Society Presents ... Sharon United Methodist Church: A Rich History

Do the last names Conrad, Norman, or Vogler ring a bell? Do you have Vests, Crafts, or Ridins in your family tree?

If the answer to either question is yes, you might be related to the founders of Lewisville's Sharon United Methodist Church as well as to Derrick Beauchamp and Sally Jones, cousins and speakers at the next meeting of the Lewisville Historical Society on Monday, July 14 at 6 p.m.

Beauchamp and Jones's connection to Sharon United Methodist goes back eight generations. "We have been bitten by the bug and love our history, good or bad, Beauchamp says.

Through their work on several genealogy and church cemetery projects, the cousins learned much about Sharon United Methodist's history, including the restoration of the cemetery, monuments on the property, and how ground-penetrating radar detected the original church location and unmarked graves.

"It is fascinating to research the backgrounds of the early settlers in the community," says Jones. "It has been 212 years, [and] the church is still going strong."

Lewisville Historical Society Presents ... is a bimonthly program of the Lewisville Historical Society and the Lewisville Branch Library. It is free and open to the public. Participants do not need to be members of the society to attend.
